P. #: 107, 154 after 5 appendices and notes
Published by Reformed Free Publishing Association. I love the cover art because it’s often how we feel while looking for our vocation as young people.
Author: William Boekestein (unsure about dates)
Life: Boekestein's educational foundation began with a B.A. from Kuyper College in 1998, followed by an M.Div. from Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary in 2002. His early ministry years (2002-2011) were spent serving as pastor of Covenant Reformed Church in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. In 2011 he moved to Immanuel Fellowship Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he is still preaching today. His published works, such as "Bible Studies on Mark", "Glorifying and Enjoying God", and "Why Christ Came", reflect his commitment to biblical exposition and theological reflection.
General info about author: Boekestein is a pastor, author, theologian, husband, and father of four.
Overall Summary/review:
The book is split into three sections, each with three chapters. They are then followed by five appendices which each answer questions about certain career choices. (p. 3)
Now, obviously (as the subtitle says) the book is for young people. (introduction, p. 3-4). It being a book for young people, it gives very helpful categories for those young people to think in.
It also gives extremely practical advice, and he speaks in such a way that makes you know that you aren’t alone in your anxiety of choosing a career (p. 53).
He challenges young readers in their understanding of work and reminds them that in the end, what really matters is your service to Christ (p. 60, 67, 68).
He likewise points out that you, “Actually don’t need to choose a job that’s “perfect for you.” But you do need to be productive in ways that honor God in your work life.” (back cover)
The five appendices are well put together and helpful to everyone. (read just those).
