 Overall Summary/review:

  • The subtitle of this book is split into three sections, so I’d like to follow those sections to give you an idea of what is in this book. These sections are also visible in the table of contents.

  • So first, the pastor’s call. This book helps explain what it means to be called into the ministry, how to know if you might be called into the ministry, and how to check yourself. It also explains what the pastor feels when discerning his own call which helps the lay person understand and relate to his or her pastor. Some great quotes under the topic of the pastors call: p. 4, 6, 10, 19

  • Second, the pastor’s character. This book also provides the reader with a solid understanding of how the pastor should behave in regards to his character. What traits should we see in our pastors? What behavior should we see within ourselves before entering the ministry? This book has the answers: p. 49, 50, 65, 85

  • And finally, the pastor’s work. Most of the book is spent on this topic. This flows naturally since once the pastor is called and his character is of a Godly nature, the rest of his life will be spent doing the work of the ministry. This book provides a helpful look into what the pastor does: p. 105, 122, 151, 168, 216
