How to Take Notes While Reading

How to take notes while reading

Hey man, I’ve been wondering, when reading books, how do you usually go about going through the book, do you take notes?

  1. The first thing I like to do is read the table of contents.

  2. Then I look at the indexes to get an idea of who the author quotes/references.

  3. Then, I start reading at the very beginning and I mark things in brackets or underlining things that stand out or speak to me personally.

  4. In some books, I like to take key notes in the front or back of the book while also marking all the typos and mistakes throughout the book.

  5. Finally, after I’ve finished reading the book, I go back through and add some of my favorite quotes from the book into my Word document that has topical quotes sorted alphabetically. I HIGHLY recommend doing something like this if you don’t already.
