Overall Summary/review:
This book was extremely valuable when it was published 400 years ago, and it is still extremely valuable for us today. It’s been updated to modern English and has been edited to make it even easier to read. (ix, xii (2))
In every era of Christianity, Christians will struggle to fight against the love of the world. However, the editor of this book argues that it’s even more difficult to keep the world in its place now. (p. Viii, xii (1))
How can we fight against it? Greenhill, in this book, offers us a solid definition of what loving the world is, and provides several thoughts answering this question about how to fight against those tendencies.
First, Greenhill shows us the folly of Loving the World by showing us the dangers of it. (chapters 2 and 5) (p. 20, 23, 53, 57)
Second, Greenhill shows us how we are to live in the world and use the world without loving it. (chapters 3, 4 and 6) (29-41 headings, 72)
Finally, Greenhill challenges us to search our hearts to discern whether we love the Lord, or if we love the world. (p. 45-52)
Quotes: p. 17-18, 57, 73
