  • P. #: 188, Volume 2 of the series, Recovering the Gospel

  1.  Author: Paul Washer

  • Life: Born in Madrid, Spain on September 11, 1969. He studied engineering at the University of Texas and earned his Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. After being saved in college, Washer spent a lot of time praying, reading the Scriptures, and sharing the gospel. He later spent 10 years in Peru as a missionary only to come back to America in the year 2000 to found the Missionary Organization, HeartCry, which supports dozens of missionaries worldwide. Washer has influenced 100,000s if not millions of people and the Holy Spirit has saved countless individuals to Christ through the work of Paul Washer. Washer believes in Reformed theology which of course stresses the providence of God, the holiness of God, and Biblical authority above all else.

  • General info about author: Paul Washer is a preacher, theologian, missionary, commentator, puritan enthusiast, author, husband, and father of 4.

  1.  Overall Summary/review:

  •  The book (and series) is a wonderful introduction to theology and a great selection for someone who isn’t familiar with the Reformed Tradition or the gospel at all.

  • In light of that, if you’re watching this video, and you don’t know much about Reformed theology or the Gospel in general, I’d like to send you a copy of this book for free. I only have one copy so it’s first come first serve. You can simply email me at davis@petrapublications.org to express your interest in receiving this copy.

  • This book offers a lot of practical advice about salvation. What does salvation look like in a true believer? How do we know if we are truly saved? How do we know if God is actually calling us to salvation? And what does true repentance look like?

  • Many of these questions he answers with multiple bullet points. For example page 5, 40, and 158.

  • It also addresses many different doctrines of modern evangelicalism such as the sinners prayer, what Matthew Everhard would call Worshiptainment, and others.

  • The only negative about this book and the entire series, is that there is no index in the back for anything. The whole thing is made up of footnotes. Not my favorite.

  •  This book is split into three parts and 16 chapters. The sections are each on a passage of Scripture, and each chapter break these passages down like sermons.

  •  Section 1 breaks down Mark 1:14-15, Acts 20:20-21, and Romans 10:8-10. Section 2 breaks down Ezekiel 36:22-28. And section three discusses Jeremiah 31:33-34 and Jeremiah 32:38-42.

  • Quotes: 19, 20-21, 27, 37 (discuss whole page), 44, 73, 89, 91, 118, 132, 138
